My diet has been terrible lately. Seriously, I have been eating like a twelve year old boy. I'm not sure why I have been doing so bad, but I am going to mend my evil ways. I am going on another sugar fast. I am going to start on May 1st (have to help finish off all the Easter candy laying around the house.) Steve is going to do it with me, and any of you who want to join in please feel free. We can be our own little support group. I have my own rules so make your own. Some of mine include; dessert once a week, fruit doesn't count as sugar, sugar in regular food doesn't count, and basically I just want to cut out the extra sugar I really don't need to eat. I am just trying some things so I can quit loosing the same seven pounds over and over. Last time I lost five pounds in a month without changing anything else. Maybe next I will work on portion control. One thing at a time. Someday I hope to have a flat stomach like Kent's.

YEAH! I started last Monday, but then some one brought me some Cadbury eggs... I'm pretty sure that cutting out sugar and simple carbs while adding in more fruits and veg will get rid of my postpartum weight without having to be as delibertate as calorie counting with an online journal as in the past.
Sugar Cravings: Manage these by keeping your blood sugar level. Eat a breakfast (no less than 200 cals) with some protein and fat within an hour of waking. Simple carbs and sweets (even fruit) should also be eaten with protein or fat (like apple with string cheese, banana with peanut butter), to avoid insulin spikes. Eating a lot of fiber helps- shredded wheat cereal and carrots with hummus are go to snacks for me lately. Cinnamon, oat bran (which is in oatmeal or can be purchased and prepared seperately as cereal), and exercise have all been shown to assist in helping blood sugar levels remain even.
So Ann, you're saying I shouldn't have had those Almond MMs for breakfast today?
I got a little irritated with the whole sugar thing when I read the ingredients and found sugar or HFCS in everything I ate one day. Raisin Bran, spaghetti sauce, even Progresso soup. So I'm going to try a month without it as much as possible. And I'm still figuring out my rules, but here's what I've got so far:
1- I like the dessert once a week. I think I'll have half a chocolate cake and a quart of ice cream ;)
2- Fruit and 100% juice with no added sugar is OK
3- During a run is an exception. Within reason. Gu-OK, donuts-not.
4- Unfortunately, honey has about the same glucose-fructose profile as sucrose and HFCS, so it's out. And I love PB&H sandwiches.
5- In a pinch, as long as sugar isn't in the top 5 ingredients I may make an exception. Still trying to figure out if Craisins are OK or not.
Basically, I'm hoping to break the sugar habit, not start a new totally sugar free lifestyle.
Three days in, and I'm still doing ok. Looking forward to dessert this weekend.
We were having turkey burgers for dinner Tuesday night. The thing that makes turkey burgers edible is the BBQ sauce. I looked and saw that the first ingredient was HFCS. I succumbed and ate the BBQ sauce. But, I skipped the cookies, B-day cake, and soda that were all offered to me at work that day.
Had my dessert for the week. I really do love brownies.
