That's right. I'm swearing off making any new friends. It all started a little over four years ago with Mike and Kent. They suckered me into being their friend. Yeah, it was great, but then they moved. Stayc moved, but at least she came back. Ryan has talked of moving to Bend, and Brett is perpetually looking to leave. Angela can't wait to leave when she graduates. David is in Phoenix.
Now one more of you is hitting the bricks. I'm not sure if it is still a secret so I won't divulge anything I shouldn't. Amy and I were fighting over who will miss you the most. It's a bummer.
I don't think that it can be a coincidence. Too many people I call friends leave Tucson. It must be me. That's why I refuse to make any new friends. I will enjoy my current friends until, one by one, they all move away. I will have to find a belay slave, but everything else I can do on my own. I'll just search the gym for some poor lonely soul who doesn't have a partner, and has to get their climbing workout by traversing around the gym. I won't establish a relationship other than climber-belayer with them.
I guess it could be worse. Steve could move to town just long enough to tell me he's leaving.

I am so glad I had my speakers on when I opened your page to comment! I mean, my emotions were a little mixed on whether to stifle tears or giggles at your song choice, but it certainly caught me by surprise and is appropriate for your post. (p.s. It's not YOU, it's A. M. Y... -she's so great she makes us feel inferior!)
Rik-
This is so sad. Don't be afraid to make new friends.... Remember the great words of Garth Brooks in The Dance.
"And now, I'm glad I didn't know,
The way it all would end, the way it all would go,
Our lives, are better left to chance,
I could have missed the pain,
But I'd have had to miss, the dance."
Stay strong Rik... There are still plenty of people in Tucson who can stand you....
You know, I was thinking about moving down there. But I was afraid that as a climber I'd be profiled as a dope-smoker and hassled all the time. Actually, when I heard that San Francisco wants to boycott AZ you guys moved up a notch in my book. And you also have more than 2 months of summer, so that's a plus. Still, I'm pretty happy here, so you don't have to worry about me breakin your heart.
You just did Steve. If you change your mind don't move here until the end of October. It will finally be in the 90's by then.
Glad I slipped in just under the deadline.... :)
